Available as a digital download, the Big Book of Short Plays is a collection of 35 five-minute plays based on the Tiger Tuesday® Reading Program. They provide children with opportunities to practice and apply their Orton-Gillingham based phonics skills with a carefully controlled vocabulary.
It’s important that children read—not memorize—their parts, thus providing practice to improve fluency. Also, children are invited (optionally) to dress-up as the characters, and create background scenery and props for each play.
Reading these plays is especially helpful in teaching ESOL/ENL students and those with learning disabilities including: dyslexia, ADHD and language disorders.
The benefits of using the Tiger Tuesday® Big Book of Short Plays are many. Students improve:
- Focusing, listening skills and self-control
- Decoding, reading fluency and comprehension
- Reading aloud with expression and clarity
- Motivation to read
- Self-confidence and poise
Creativity and problem solving
